FBI stops mad doctor Ronald Craig Ilg, a 55-year-old former neonatologist from Spokane, Washington, who admitted to sending several hitmen on the Dark Web $60,000 worth of bitcoin to hurt severely an ex-colleague of his. In addition, he gave the criminals orders to abduct his estranged wife and inject heroin into her so that she would drop the divorce case.
Ilg now faces a sentence of five to eight years in jail. In November 2022, US officials will reveal the precise penalty.
FBI Stops Mad Doctor
Ronald Ilg was prepared to seriously injure one of his former coworkers despite his profession. He made contact with multiple murderers on the infamous Dark Web in 2021 and insisted that they hurt or perhaps shatter the victim’s hands. He used the alias “Scar215” and the password “Mufassa$$” to mask his identity.
Initially, Ilg gave the thieves the victim’s photo and address while also sending them $2,000 worth of bitcoin. As soon as the thrashing was over, he demanded on evidence and promised that there will be another duty in the future:
“I would like to see evidence that it happened. If this goes well, I have another, more complicated job for an entirely different target with entirely different objectives.”
His divorce petition had already been filed against him by his estranged wife, who was the target of his subsequent crime. He gave the criminals operating on the Dark Web around $60,000 in Bitcoin so they could abduct her and administer heroin to her. Ilg anticipated that after the medicines took effect, she would resume their failing marriage and abandon their divorce arrangements.
Fortunately for the victims, the FBI discovered the plot and was able to collect records of the former doctor’s communications with the hit men. He made a bogus suicide claim during a voluntary interview with the agency. He also wrote to a crucial witness in his defense, pleading with her to marry him so he could be in complete control of the proceedings.
“This case demonstrates how violent offenders exploit cyberspace and cryptocurrency to further their criminal agendas. Mr. Ilg solicited and paid for multiple dark web hitmen to target the two victims in this case. Mr. Ilg also wanted to target additional victims if the hitmen followed through with the plan to harm these first two victims,” US Attorney Waldref commented on the crimes.
The FBI’s chief agent, Michael Heiler, reaffirmed that the agency will keep searching for similar crimes and attempting to stop them before it was too late.
On November 8, the Department of Justice will announce Ronald Ilg’s punishment. He may spend 60 to 96 months in prison.
This was a similar story to a one we reported on about a wife who tried to have her husband murdered by paying Bitcoin to a dark web hitman.
