MetaMask launched its Ethereum wallet for iOS and Android users after one year of beta testing by public users so let’s learn more about the wallet in our Ethereum news.
Google and Apple’s crypto policies have been extremely criticized but no matter, MetaMask launched its Ethereum wallet for all iOS and Android users. MetaMask has finally released a mobile version of the ETH wallet for mobile users as announced on Twitter. The wallet allows users to make seamless ETH payments to multiple ETH-based dapps which means that the mobile users can connect to different Defi exchanges such as Compound, Uniswap, Synthetix and Aave. The wallet was initially released as an extension for desktop browsers in 2016.

iOS and Android users were not able to use the app until the wallet provider released the beta version for mobile back in 2019. Today’s release of the wallet is the first version aimed at general mobile users as the beta version of the app gained a substantial userbase. The Android version was already installed 100,000 times which accounts for about one-tenth of the entire userbase of MetaMask. The decision of the company to target mobile users was brought by the fact that the app stores have taken a harsh stance towards crypto apps.
Google removed MetaMAsk’s beta app previously form its Google Play app store in 2019. Apple never did that but it has taken a few other crypto wallets. Apple restricted the functions of the coinbase mobile wallet and prevented the wallet from providing the dapp browser. Other takedowns have focused on issues regarding mining and phishing risks. It is also worth noting that MetaMask attracted criticism for exercising control over the apps as the licensing rules of the project prevent for-profit projects which serve more than 10,000 users from using the wallet freely. These projects will have to enter a formal commercial agreement with MetaMAsk that is going forward.
Despite the controversies, MetaMask is still one of the most popular Ethereum wallets out there. Disagreements between the companies will unlikely drive away from its userbase. As previously reported, Ethereum’s Metamask browser has surpassed one million users on its Google Chrome extension. The new milestone arrived with an increase in Ethereum transactions which have doubled from 400K to 800K in just a month according to the analysis by Trustnodes. The report shows that Gas had surged to the highest level since September 2019 while the transaction fees are still low.
