The latest Tron news show that the founder of the cryptocurrency network has finally sat down with Warren Buffett on a dinner, months after Tron’s CEO Justin Sun canceled the original event claiming that he had kidney stones.
An official blog post by the TRON Foundation on Thursday showed that Sun met the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway for dinner (at Buffett’s suggestion) at a private country club in Omaha, Nebraska on January 23. Tron’s CEO Justin Sun brought a couple of guests with him including the head of Litecoin (LTC), Charlie Lee, the CEO of eToro Yoni Assia and the CFO of Huobi, Chris Lee and the head of the Binance Charity Foundation, Helen Hai.
A statement after the dinner showed that Tron’s CEO Justin Sun was really “honored and grateful for Mr. Buffett’s dinner, wisdom and vision.”
He also added that he would “take Mr. Buffett’s advice and guidance to make TRON a better ecosystem, business with all the partners in the blockchain space and beyond,” though he did not provide specifics.
If you don’t know from the latest Tron news, Justin Sun is a big personality in the crypto world. Buffett, on the other hand, has been auctioning a dinner with himself every year since 2000, using the funds of the participants towards charity. Sun placed a record-breaking $4.5 million bid at the Glide Foundation last year for a dinner with one of the wealthiest people in the world.
Even though the dinner was originally scheduled for July 2019, Tron’s CEO Justin Sun postponed it days before and claimed to have fallen ill with kidney stones. The day after, a Chinese media outlet reported that the dinner’s postponement was under investigation by local authorities as Sun was not allowed to leave China. However, the CEO of Tron later showed up in San Francisco.
Nonetheless, Tron’s CEO Justin Sun was accused of “over-marketing” himself and many claimed that the dinner postponement had “a negative influence” with regulators and the public.
The other guests also commented in the latest Tron news on the dinner with Mr. Buffett. Yoni Assia of eToro said:
“He [Buffett] thinks that blockchain technology has value but that none of the companies out there right now are using it correctly. The smartest people say it’s an important technology, just no one really uses it yet.”
There still hasn’t been a reply from Buffett’s assistant or an official comment about the dinner.
