An ongoing PR debacle was all over the latest cryptocurrency news this week. The blockchain platform Tron creator Justin Sun sparked controversy after he first posted and then deleted an online apology to China.
The news were reported by many best cryptocurrency news sites. Cryptoslate was first, providing their own translation of the comments that Sun reportedly wrote and later removed from the Chinese social media platform Weibo on July 25.
For those of you who haven’t been following the news, the Tron creator Sun was due to have lunch with the billionaire Warren Buffett on Thursday – but he later postponed the lunch due to reported ill health. At the same time, the intense marketing of Tron (for which he became known) appeared to backfire as the Chinese authorities allegedly raised suspicions about the platform’s legal status.
The suspicions went public in the altcoin news and were first reported by Caixin, a local media outlet. They reported that the Tron creator had been banned from foreign travel. Sun was apparently furious about this, but named Caixin in the apology – which appeared to be a try to placate Beijing.
The translation of Tron creator’s comments reads:
“I didn’t sleep all night yesterday, and deeply reflected on my memories and was introspective for my behavior and words — I felt ashamed for my over-marketing. I want to deeply apologize to the public, media, leaders, and the related regulatory authority who cared about me.”
As many sites reported, Sun produced some evidence that he was in San Francisco, which is the original venue for the Buffett lunch. This was done in order to disprove the reports that he had been prevented from leaving China.
The Tron creator and entrepreneur still hasn’t offered an explanation as to why he deleted the apology – written in order to change the tone of his marketing activities. He wrote:
“In the future, I will repair my shortcomings, reduce my vocalizations on Weibo, reduce the media interviews, and translate all the research and development from marketing hype to true blockchain technology.”
The entire controversy was all over the coming altcoin news. But even despite it, the cryptocurrency TRON managed to surge and is still trading up around 2% on the day this Thursday.
