The French cybercrime division within the Gendarmerie has been validating the judicial expenses on the Tezos blockchain so let’s read more about it in the Tezos news today.
This is one of the first examples of the government entity using this smart contract platform for operation purposes. The Information and public relations Centre announced the program by stating that:
‘’As of September 2019, the Gendarmerie’s cybercrime division (C3N) has been validating judicial expenses incurred during investigations and recording them on the Tezos blockchain.’’
The program will allow the C3N to acquire cryptocurrency, using funds allocated by Europol to cover the operational costs. The announcement was also confirmed by Nomadic Labs when it was approached by other crypto news media outlets.

The Nomadic Labs has its main research and development center, especially for the Tezos platform. The head of Communications at Nomadic Labs Sajida Zouarhi commented:
‘’We believe at Nomadic Labs that this use case is a good example of how public blockchains like Tezos can be use to address real issues. The solution here aims to fluidify the logistics response to an operational need. Gendarmes working on cyber investigations have to wait for months to get approval over expenses and even sometimes wait for a Colonel or a General to validate a small amount like 300 euros. They also need to justify their expense without disclosing sensitive information about their investigation.’’
She continued by saying:
‘’ With this smart contract written in Michelson (the language used in Tezos), an expense can be validated in a matter of minutes instead of months, and for centimes.’’
The French cybercrime division added that using the blockchain technology to record these expenses will reduce the overheads and will ensure that the funds are traceable and readily audited and in addition the smart contracts deployed will only allow the access to specified individuals and will also maintain security. This is very important as it allows the division to justify the expense without revealing the operational activities and to also jeopardize ongoing investigations.
Nomadic Labs claims that this is the first-ever smart contract platform developed by public authority and used for operational purposes. Tim Draper also backed the Tezos platform and it has performed well in terms of the market cap so far this year. As reported last month, this has more than doubled and made Tezos one of the top altcoin performers but the growth had not been reflected in usage stats.
