000. But analysts now are wondering – could Tezos (XTZ) smash Bitcoin (BTC) and outperform it when it comes to gains?

As you probably know, BTC has outperformed most other assets so far this year and it is on course to become one of the best bets of 2020. The price of the dominant coin – after plummeting in March amid the coronavirus-induced selloff – is now up by more than 30% this year.

However, analysts are also looking at Tezos (XTZ) as one minor altcoin that has almost doubled in price since January – and many are expecting it to climb even further. That said, XTZ already outperforms BTC in 2020 – but could Tezos (XTZ) trully shine with 200% gains soon?

Trading as XTZ, the coin has risen by 85% since the start of the year, adding to gains made last year and making the market capitalization climb to almost $1.8 billion. At the start of the year, XTZ was the 15th most valuable cryptocurrency by market capitalization (CoinMarketCap) but has broken into the top ten and could move quickly past some rivals if the run continues.

“Tezos seems to be one of the most popular platforms for new projects to build on at the moment,” said Mati Greenspan, an analyst and founder of the market analysis firm Quantum Economics,

There are many people who ask themselves “could Tezos (XTZ) win the race with BTC” but according to Greenspan, the project’s “tokenomics are structured in a way that a lot of the incoming supply are diverted to staking and taken off the market.”

Also, Tezos styles itself as a “self-amending cryptographic ledger” and uses the so-called proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus model, emerging as a favourite blockchain and coin for tokenized real estate and security tokens.

However, there is a lot of room for XTZ to grow and at this point, analysts like Greenspan can only be optimistic about it.
