After the crypto company Messari published research on Ripple that we reported in our altcoin news before about it allegedly overstating its market cap by billions, some users apparently weren’t happy about the claims and the situation escalated quickly after Ryan Selkis received phone threats.
The founder of Messari, Ryan Selkis got a call on the phone in which someone said the date of birth of his wife and later hang up. The intimidation started on Twitter after he posted his analysis on Ripple and was spiked from the predominant #XRPArmy right there on the platform.
Selkis says that he and his family started receiving death threats for simply for claiming that the XRP’s circulating market cap is far less than what other people think. However, there is no proof that the harassment is coming from people that are directly affiliated with Ripple but Selkis informed the Ripple executives including the CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
XRP has seen one of the worst declines of any major cryptocurrency and its price is now by 92 percent lower from its all-time high.
This isn’t the first time someone gets harassed because of expressing their opinions on cryptocurrencies. Developer Jameson Lopp was a victim of a so-called swatting attack when an anonymous person sent a SWAT team to his house for an alleged hostage situation. Lopp was quick to defuse the situation and luckily no one got harmed.
Jeff Garzik, another Bitcoin developer was also a victim of harassment for his arguments over the software upgrade proposal-SegWit2x.
