Indonesian lawyers are preparing to fight crypto crime since the bitcoin ban continues in the country, by training on crypto crime prevention as we are about to read in the blockchain latest news today.
According to the local news outlet Sketsindo, the Attorney General of Indonesia created a group of attorneys from eight countries to conduct a four-day cryptocurrency course in order to fight the crypto ban in the country. The move comes as a response to the alleged increase in illicit activity worldwide using Bitcoin and other tokens for funding. Indonesia enforced the ban on all forms of cryptocurrency use in 2018 and a year later it recognized Bitcoin as a commodity but then continued to prohibit the use. One of the Indonesian Lawyers Dr. Arminsyah explained:
‘’…The development of technology and cryptocurrency crime that follows it will always grow without slowing down, let alone waiting for us to catch up, it will instead continue to go so fast, leaving behind anyone who’s too late to anticipate and adopt it. Cross-country cryptocurrency crime must be seen as a common enemy, therefore it cannot be addressed or faced partially by each country but must be prevented, fought, and eradicated holistically and together.’’
Some of the other Asian countries such as Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia are notable for adopting a totally opposite stance on crypto to Indonesia. For many years, the governments of these countries have encouraged the development of the legal framework for blockchain technology.

Jakarta, for example, doubled down on its zero-tolerance policy and the regulators confirmed that they will not lift the ban. Arminsyah said that he hopes by training the lawyers it will lead to a more concentration to fight the crypto-based crime and to eventually lift the ban. He summarized:
‘’I hope that the coordination established by the trainees is not merely formal… but also through informal cooperation, prosecutors to prosecutors, police to prosecutors, and customs to prosecutors, helping each other in the form of information delivery, data, advice, and the provision of facilities when they need each other.’’
As per the latest crypto news, the notion that Bitcoin plays a significant role in the criminal activity has seen its challenges. The report from July suggested that the Bitcoin darknet spending was 800 times lower than fiat spending. Last month, North Korea denied using the heists to amass the crypto funds worth al alleged $2 billion.
