The latest crypto news today show that the Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer HTC is all set to dive deeper into the decentralized space with its Monero mining smartphones. The Exodus 1S by HTC is the first smartphone which enables direct Monero XMR mining by running full nodes.
HTC has teamed up with Midas Labs to make sure that the Monero mining feature on the Exodus is adopted on a full range of blockchain smartphones, which would in turn allow the device owners to mine Monero via an application right from their pockets. The feature is being speculated to launch in the next two months. However, in order to avail the mining service, HTC would integrate Midas’ DeMiner app into the Exodus devices using which the smartphone owners can allocate a portion of their CPU and memory towards mining.
Meanwhile, Monero is a privacy focused cryptocurrency which has gained traction among a lot of people who believe that the government should not dictate how people are using their own money. The link between the Exodus 1S by HTC and Monero is now visible – Monero mining pools’ rewards are million and with the introduction of Monero mining in HTC devices, users can take a portion of this reward without having to invest in highly expensive mining rigs.

If you are wondering whether mining on mobile devices is profitable, we can say that the rigs have also moved into the third generation and the industry has become highly competitive. Now, GPU based mining rigs are the latest trend being ASIC mining rigs which are very efficient.
According to Phil Chen, who is the decentralized CEO at HTC, the success of mobile mining is still a topic of research. However, given how readily these mobile devices are available to a majority of the world numbering into 3.5 billion devices worldwide, mobile-based mining should be encouraged to make the entire industry more decentralized.
Chen spoke about the Exodus range of devices and noted that they come equipped with RandomX mining script which is designed to render ASICs non-competitive. The Exodus 1S by HTC uses this mining script, which favors CPU miners over the GPU ones. As he explained in the Monero news a while ago:
“Furthermore, the mature development of power-saving software on mobile, as opposed to power-hungry laptops or desktops, amplifies the effectiveness and efficiency of the profitability of mining on mobile.”
