Facebook exec David Marcus is taking the hit for the Libra crypto project saying that he wasn’t the one naming the cryptocurrency and that he didn’t copy Winklevoss’s Gemini. According to the reports that we have in the latest cryptocurrency news below, he insists that Libra has nothing to do with Gemini.
Both Gemini and Libra are astrological signs but the first one came on the scene about 10 years ago. Zuckerberg also worked on this project and now the Facebook exec says he is too exposed since Zuckerberg is hiding behind the key officer. While the story is a little bit too much, Marcus is willing to take a hit for the team, apparently:
‘’I named it Libra. And I promise you Gemini didn’t even cross my mind for a nanosecond. Libra was a unit of weight measure that served to mint coins, it’s the symbol of justice, and in French (libre) means freedom. I believe these are good enough reasons…’’
Marcus made the argument that he was only thinking about the origin of the word Libra. In French, the word means freedom and it also refers to a ‘’unit of weight measure’’ which is a perfect place to hide behind if you are creating a new digital currency. He denied copying Gemini but he needed to understand that while crypto is a nascent industry, the community doesn’t buy it. According to the crypto community on Twitter, Marcus made a fool out of himself since he is only the puppet and the master puppeteer is behind the curtain which is Zuckerberg. He is the one pulling all the strings.
Gemini has deep roots too. The world means twins in Latin and this could be a good enough reason for the Winklevoss twins Cameron and Tyler to come up with the name. Gemini was launched in 2014. The twines actually focused on the concept of duality which is also another meaning of the name. The duality is akin to the old money and new digital money that is used on their platform. It is also the name of the NASA project that helped Apollo’s moon landing. As noted in the coming altcoin news, the Winklevoss twins seem to have moved on but Zuckerberg just can’t let go.
