David Marcus from Libra and Facebook has shown some interest in Ethereum Defi as it got a lot of attention over the past few months. This sector of the crypto space saw a huge uptick in capital involved as the yields to use the applications increased dramatically. In today’s ETH news, we are reading more about his interests.
The data shows that the number of DeFi users has literally gone from thousands at the start of the year to a few hundred thousand now. prominent investors from the outside and inside of the crypto space, are understandably taking notice. David Marcus from Libra, a former PayPal president as well, started to ask about it on Twitter recently. Marcus is a well-known figure in the crypto and financial technology community. He is now helping to run Libra which was the digital currency project launched by Facebook. He recently asked about DeFi , having to read up on the subject, and asked his followers:
“What are the most interesting #DeFi projects beyond Uniswap, Maker, and Compound I should know about?”

Dozens of people responded with the projects that they should make Marcus look into. It is unclear why Marcus is asking about Defi but he is an outspoken fan of bitcoin, Ethereum, and other decentralized networks that have neo-financial technologies. He is far from the only prominent investor in Silicon Valley taking notice of the Defi space. Investor Naval Ravikant stated as well:
“They’re building a decentralized Wall Street, they call it DeFi, D-E-F-I, for decentralized finance. But I actually think it’s more like DEFY as, just defy the government, DEFY. And so I think, we’re seeing a whole new casino that’s better than Wall Street.”
Silicon Valley venture companies started allocating capital to this space as well and the interest is likely to drive the next round of growth in the nascent sector. The CEO of Calibra David Marcus recently claimed that the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) standards of Libra will be better than many other payment networks. According to the publication, David Marcus said that “the efficacy of sanction enforcing can be much higher on Libra than other payments networks.” He revealed that “It was designed to be competitive, but we still need to earn people’s trust over time to use Calibra.”
