The IOTA Foundation is in the blockchain news today as it monitors the progress in developing Chrysalis, Bee, Qubic and other projects this past month. As IOTA reports, the focus in February was fixing the Trinity wallet hack but this month there is increased progress on other projects with Chrysalis being the most promising one.
The “intermediate update” is now being developed separately from the Coordicide efforts and aims to optimize the usability of the current IOTA mainnet for businesses before the launch of Coordicide. As the update from yesterday shows, the research and development team at IOTA reports that they have been working with the Hornet team over the past month to finalize the specifications for the first Chrysalis modifications.
Among the changes, we can see that there is better tip selection (protocol RFC #8), white flag (protocol RFC #5) and the ed25519 signature scheme (protocol RFC #9). All of these may not suggest anything to you if you are not following the IOTA news, but what is important is that there is development on all the technical projects behind the coin.
In addition, the implementation of auto peering in the Hornet Node software is currently being tested. The final inclusion, as we can see, is already planned for the next version of Hornet. Additionally, there is the Bee implementation on the Rust programming language which is making great progress, too.
As IOTA reports, the IOTA Reference Implementation (known as IRI) will receive version 1.8.5 on 23 March. This version will contain important changes to the validation rules for bundles, fixing a lot of potential vulnerabilities and making it easier for nodes to validate the bundles.
Many updates will take place in the V.1.9.0 which is a new version that includes significant changes in memory management and will be released in the next period. As a consequence of this, the number of the transactions that the software can process will be significantly increased.
Qubic and Masked Authenticated Messaging (MAM) are two other projects that were completed on time. Qubic’s release was delayed due to the Trinity hack, while MAM said that the new v1.1 will be released to the public very soon.
As IOTA reports, all of these smaller projects are vital to the health of the network.
“We believe this will significantly improve the area of scenarios that the new MAM implementation will be used for in the future,” the team said.
