IOTA Access, created by the IOTA Foundation, is a distributed ledger technology which is an open-source framework that will grant or revoke conditional access to physical devices in a permissionless manner. In our IOTA news, we can read some more about this new solution.
The IOTA Foundation is working with partners like Jaguar Land Rover, EDAG, NTT DATA Romania, ETO Gruppe, and more by striving to bring a secure and configurable access control framework to smart devices across the globe. IOTA co-founder David Sonstebo said:
“Controlling access under specified conditions requires trust that both users will meet their portion of the agreement. With IOTA Access we can provide that layer of transparency to ensure that both parties are honoring the agreement and observing its conditions.”
IOTA Access will decentralize access and permission structures by enabling the embedding of these in for example a vehicle, to be able to directly process signals on an individual level rather than as a part of a centralized structure. For example, if you own a car and you want to share it with someone, that someone can borrow it at specific times, and in exchange, he will agree to pay for fees and maintenance, insurance, and return of the vehicle at the set date and time.
I can highly recommend everyone to watch this video by Prof. Dr. Michael Huth to better understand how Access works, and why it's uniquely suited for access control for embedded devices https://t.co/nsSEUGEtim.

IOTA Access adds more trust to transactions like these via a layer of transparency and flexible delegation of the functions. This feature will provide electronic control of these conditions thus granting or revoking permission to the cars based on whether or not the borrower satisfies the conditions. Co-founder Dominik Schiener said:
“The challenge is in how to delegate access to our resources while ensuring that strict conditions are met. In business, managing these contracts often falls under the control of entire departments or legal teams. With IOTA Access, we manage the bulk of this work from embedded devices, platforms, or even a smartphone app.”
If you really want to dive deeper into the protocol, there is extensive documentation available, including a Yellow Paper: https://t.co/hn1WDWUGcO

With IOTA Access, using the IOTA Tangle Protocol will grant access to physical devices or data streams in remotes in a permissionless and auditable manner. All of this will be controlled behind the scenes with built-in products or platforms that will manage transactional details and will grant or revoke the access. The foundation believes that this framework for access-controlled integration works with any IoT resource but with the new feature of IOTA users can grant and revoke access at any time, make changes to agreements and add more restrictions.
