The Beta IOTA streams have finally been released by the IOTA foundation with 100x performance improvement, based on the reduction in library size. In our IOTA news today, we are reading more about the recent performance improvement.
The Beta IOTA streams version will offer almost 100 fold performance improvement and will pave the way for embedding IoT solutions. After having released the alpha version, the foundation has now taken the next step and released the beta one. The release of 1.0 is planned with the launch of Chrysalis phase 2 which is scheduled for November. The foundation announced the release on Twitter:
“IOTA Streams Alpha Update, Sept 2020 – We’ve made substantial progress w/ the team developing #IOTAStreams and the core code. Everybody is invited to test some of the new functionalities while we transition #IOTA Streams to beta.”

IOTA streams are an improved version of MAM v0 which was introduced in 2017. The goal of MAM was to provide a solution for sending encrypted and unalterable data using the Tangle. IOTA Streams provides a framework for sending secure messages and data streams and it also provides universal methods for devices to communicate in a secure manner on the Tangle. It’s also said to bring huge improvements in еfficiency. According to the current benchmarks of the foundation, the new version will result in the size reduction of the new Streams library to 10x reduction in library size while having the 100-fold improvement in performance based on the resource constraints and processing time required. According to the IOTA foundation, this will pave the way for getting the new feature in IoT solutions.
The switch will enable the use of IOTA streams in low powered devices and will result in significant future size improvements that are estimated at 4-5x size reduction. One of the biggest improvements is the feature known as sequencing which was not enabled previously but will help cover many of the MAM utilities. IOTA streams will make a difference between two core versions, the Multi-Branch and the Single Branch.
With the Single Branch, all messages from the publishers of the cannel will be sent there. The Multi Branch is more complex and it uses a branch as a point of reference called the sequencing branch to map individual publishers to one or a few branches that can be found in the channel.
