We read more about it in today’s ETH news.
The new crypto plugin will allow all WordPress publishers to receive an AD earning right into their ETH wallets according to the plugin description that was posted on the official website of WordPress. Dubbed as the “EthereumADS” the plugin will enable publishers of content to auction advertisement space for ETH using smart contracts as the official description read:
“After you inserted our widget your ad space is automatically openly auctioned off using our smart contract every two weeks to the highest bidder.”
According to the EthereumAds website, the new WordPress plugin will compete with Google’s AdSense and will allow publishers to earn ETH through banner ads. The new plugin promises to provide publishers with low commissions as per the description:
“Google Adsense only pays you 68% of your ad earnings. We on the other hand pay you a whopping 90%.”
The new Ad plugin will be applicable to any type of content like blogs, billboards, websites, and will not be limited to crypto-related content. As EthereumADS intends on competing with major AD monetization platforms like the one of Google, it remains to be seen how traditional platforms will react to the new crypto rival. Providing the world’s biggest ad monetization platform, Google’s AdSense had a few issues with crypto in the past. Back in April of this year, the reports showed that Google AdSense was running fraudulent crypto ads that prohibited legitimate crypto companies from using this service. Google Ads even blacklisted a few keywords that mentioned Ethereum back in January 2019.
As previously reported, WordPress, has decided to launch a new publishing platform backed by Google and the Ethereum development studio ConsenSys among other partners. The new product – called Newspack – is described as an “inexpensive” platform that offers technology and support for small as well as medium-sized news organizations. Google was the main backer with a $1.2 million investment, while ConsenSys contributed with $350,000. The Lenfest Institute for Journalism and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation also took part in the investments, giving $400,000 and $250,000 respectively
