Big news comes from the non-profit organization – Ethereum Foundation. In parallel with advancing and maintaining Ethereum’s software, the organization has announced the recipients of the first wave of development grants.
In the list are a total of 13 projects receiving more than $2.5 million. According to the official announcement, the focus of these projects will be to work on scalability, security, development experiences, user interface studies and other derivatives found in the Ethereum blockchain.
These grants will help the Ethereum community to better develop its distributed applications (known as dapps) and the smart contract technology, as the post says. The Ethereum Foundation also noted their focus on improving through the multi-user approach, stating “we hope that these grants will signal to the community what we think are the missing pieces in the ecosystem that need more support.”
According to many, the Ethereum Foundation grant program had changed over the years. At the time, it was aimed at developers working on scaling the network and now, it is taking a whole different turn.
However, the Foundation explained the change by stating the following:
“We decided to broaden the support to projects that are doing great work across scalability, usefulness and security. These projects have no ICOs, no token sales, and focus simply on building useful products and experiences.”
So far, some of the largest grants from the Foundation went towards scalability research. L4 Research has earned $1.5 million to work on state channels, while Prysmatic Labs earned $100,000 to work on sharding.
