Matic Network is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum which recently revealed the results of their Counter Stake testnet stress testing. In a two month period, the team at Matic claims that the achieved speeds of up to 7,200 transactions per second (TPS) which occurred under decentralized conditions, easening the stress on the delay of ETH 2.0.
The team was in the crypto news and they said that this occurred under decentralized conditions and said:
“During stress testing, 122 validators were active and running validator+sentry nodes. Thus, the network was truly decentralized, ensuring reliable results.”
The blog post published by them also stated that performance tweaks are what could result in even higher throughput upon the mainnet launch. We can see details in the screenshot below.
All of this bodes well for Ethereum which is often criticised for its lack of scaling and the low 15 TPS (transactions per second) throughput. With the delay of ETH 2.0, it seems like the criticism grew and Matic’s achievements could go some way towards easening up the entire situation.
Even though developers initially scheduled the ETH 2.0 launch for January 2020, delays to the rollout made many frustrated. A recent Reddit AMA showed the Ethereum Foundation Researcher Justin Drake telling everyone that January 3 2021 will be the date for the Phase 0 rollout.
Drake also said that several critical functions still need proper finalization. These include the public testnet with at least three clients running, the incentivized “attack net”, the bug bounty program and the differential fuzzing (which is related to the bug testing).
In that manner, the delay of ETH 2.0 should take two to three additional months until each of these critical functions are completed. This is why he also counted Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and set the data after them, more precisely at the start of 2021.
Vitalik Buterin also jumped and said that he wants a phase 0 launch in the ETH news well before this date, even if it is not ready.
The crypto community blasted both the 2021 rollout date and Buterin’s comments. One of the users wrote:
“Ethereum will have a credibility issue if you can’t launch phase 0 this year. There are tradeoffs for sure but I think the delay will cause more harm at this point.”
