Even though we see many cryptocurrency miners purportedly shutting down due to unprofitability, the Bitmain Antminer E3 continues to see growth. The company is in the cryptonews now for selling out as well as improving some of its older flagship devices.
The Bitmain Antminer E3 is a popular ASIC miner which was suspected to become obsolete by April 2020. However, according to new updates, this machine will continue mining Ether (ETH) at least until October 2020.
A blog post from March 30 shows that the Antminer E3 lifespan is prolonged and there is specifically designed firmware launched by Bitmain. The announcement also reads that the new firmware was developed in order to allow miners to continue using the E3 miner “even after March 20.”
The Bitmain Antminer E3 has new problems in its firmware, mostly connected to the directed acylic graph (DAG) files, which was first reported by altcoin mining pool 2Miners in February 2020. As 2Miners said, the DAG growth was the primary and main reason for limiting the capability of the Antminer E3 for mining Ether (ETH) and Ethereum Classic (ETC) due to limited memory capacity.
Even though Bitmain confirmed the DAG growth problem and said that its double date rate (DDR) memory was approaching the limit of 4GB, 2Miners calculated that the Bitmain Antminer E3 would stop Ether mining roughly on April 8, 2020.
As the Ethereum latest news show, the lifespan of this miner has been extended with the new firmware which addresses the DAG problem directly. According to Bitmain, the new firmare will also expand the usage of DDR memory as more space is needed to process DAG files.
The final approximate block height with the new firmware update is 11,400,000 as the blog post confirmed. While Bitmain is confident that E3 miners will continue being operable after April 2020, the miner will support mining until October 2020 as the firm’s calculations show.
For those of you who don’t know, the Bitmain Antminer E3 was released by the company in 2018, touted as “the most powerful and efficient ETHash ASIC miner in the world.

” As reported, the miner uses a Proof-of-Work (PoW) hashing algorithm used by Ethereum and a variety of other altcoins such as Ethereum Classic (ETC).
