Another testnet for ethereum launched successfully today for the ETH 2.0 called Zinken so let’s learn more about it in the latest ethereum news.
The Ethereum foundation relaunched another testnet successfully for ETH 2.0 and Zinken saw a smooth launch compared to Spadina which experienced a lot of problems. The Foundation team confirmed that Phase 0 for ETH 2.0 will be rolled out in 2020. They also finally deployed the successful testnet for Phase 0 named Beacon Chain of ETH 2.0. The foundation said that they will be moving forward with the launch of the ETH 2.0 with many new hurdles on the horizon.
Hey y'all, we formalized the YouTube livestream link for the Zinken Testnet launch happening around 1145 UTC Monday, October 12, 2020. I hope you can join us.https://t.co/vul0Ev7X8r

After the launch of Medalla, the ETH Foundation announced a parallel testnet Spadina was meant to be another checkpoint before the roll-out of the 2.0 first phase Beacon Chain. After launching on September 29, Spadina didn’t operate as planned. According to the team’s report, the Spadina testnet had suffered from a lack of finality at launch because of the low validator nods that participated and some other configuration issues.
With the latest testnet, the team said that the zinkin validators didn’t encounter any hurdles and all of the clients performed well for block generation. Zinken saw a much smoother genesis compared to the Spadina and saw block finality immediately. This means that the validators achieved block consensus and the transactions were executed on the network which could not be reversed or changed. The Zinken genesis block was mined at 12 PM UTC and the client teams reported that validators were able to connect to the network without any issues.

With the new testnet success, the ETH foundation confirmed it was on track to roll out the Beacon Chain mainnet in 2020. Danny Ryan, the lead coordinator for ETH 2.0 said:
“We are on target with the 2020 timeline. That’s my impression. This is an ongoing dialogue with client teams, and we need to take a second to look at this test net and my understanding is that this will trigger the next series of things. There’s always blockers that might show up.”
Over the past few years there were a lot of calls to scale ETH but these improvements were slow to roll out. The transition to ETH 2.0 will boost ETH’s scalability from the current 15 transactions per second to 100,000. The throughput will bring down the fees and support scalable applications too.
