Israeli Man Afek Zard was charged with stealing more than 75,000 Dash from his friend Alexei Yaromenko after teaching him about crypto. The latest cryptocurrency news shows that Yaromenko trusted his friend and gave him a key from his apartment in the city of Eilat at the southern border of Israel.
According to the Israeli news sources, Afek Zard is now charged with theft after he gained access to the apartment of his friend and managed to steal the dash coins. No one else was indicted but it is possible that Zard had help from the outside. It is still unclear how he found out the password of Yaromenko’s dash wallet but it is certain that he transferred the 75,000 dash coins via the anonymization features. The funds were assessed at $6.2 million at the time. Currently, 75,000 dash is worth over $9 million.
This amount of dash coins will definitely put you on the rich list since that amount is 1 percent of all the issued Dash. The riches wallet on the network has 125,000 dash coins at press time. There is still no evidence what addresses were owned by Yaromenko but there is evidence that the other Israeli man did the crime.
Afek Zard gained access to the wallet of his friend who used to trade since 2013 so it is not certain whether he had access to other coins as well. This is why it is always so important to have a secure device on which you are keeping your cryptocurrencies. Zard planned his scheme for a long time and the wallet was not protected well enough. Just a few more security steps and Yaromenko could have protected his coins. Maybe using a hardware wallet would have prevented the loss.
As the media reported in the altcoin news, it is unknown whether Afek Zard will be able to return the dash coins he stolen from his friend. There is a possibility that he could return the funds but certainly not in dash. Also, Yaromenko shouldn’t have used the same password for his crypto wallet and his computer. In the first place, he shouldn’t have trusted his friend into giving him the key to such a big fortune.
