What Is Cardano’s Icarus?

ICARUS is basically a Google Chrome extension that works as a full wallet without the copy of the blockchain on it. This is the major difference compared to other wallets thus making it a light wallet that offers full functionality.

This project was inspired by Google’s Android development approach. Icarus will make sure that Cardano can work as efficiently on a broader range of devices. This is very helpful for people who don’t have great quality connectivity because the blockchain doesn’t have to be downloaded. Also, Icarus can easily be ported to Mozilla Firefox and mobile phone apps.  This is great for developers that work on the Cardano blockchain.

The team was inspired to bring a wallet like these because they believed that mobile wallets are relatively insecure. This is why Icarus can be audited by a security partner. Icarus is the first step towards easier and greater accessibility of the ADA token. The browser installers are just one click away and Cardano users will have an easier time to purchase ADA.

Cardano is currently an altcoin that is ranked 8th on Coinmarketcap with a market cap of around $3.5 billion. Hoskinson, who is one of the people behind it, was also behind Ethereum (ETH) as well as the crypto startup Invictus Innovations and the crypto tech company IOHK.

Cardano has a lot of advantages. It is built with two layers, the first one called Cardano Settlement layer which handles the ledger balance and then there is the second layer called Cardano Computation layer. The second layer can be used to build decentralized apps and smart contracts. Cardano is built based on a Haskell programming language which is extremely secure.
