IOHK new KEV Devnet has just opened up for Ethereum developers as per the announcement which says that Solidity, the programming language for writing smart contracts on ETH is compatible with the ADA blockchain as of today. The company also restarted the platform which enables the Ethereum virtual machine to run with the K-Framework so let’s find out more in our Cardano ADA news.
IOHK, the company behind Cardano, announced two major development environments earlier this month as both developer networks were set to allow developers to write smart contracts for Cardano and were part of the larger effort to launch Goguen. While enabling dapps on Cardano is the biggest development on the blockchain since Shelley, the fact that these ETH developers will be able to write smart contracts in their native Solidity programming language Is quite a big deal.

According to an announcement that was published a few days ago, IOHK has opened Cardano up to the Solidity and ETH community with a platform that is compatible with the native code. The framework established a bridge that will enable developers to work seamlessly across both ecosystems as the company explained. As a part of the effort, the company restarted and sped up its K Ethereum Virtual Machine program which is a new version of the Ethereum Virtual Machine that is specified in the K Framework.
The K Framework is a semantics platform that is used to create verified programming languages and virtual machines which enable developers to define the to implement format semantics of the programming language in a modular way. After announcing that the KEVM devnet program went live, IOHK called on Solidity developers to join the initiative on December 21.
As #Cardano momentum builds into 2021, we’re inviting #Solidity developers to check out our new 2020 KEVM devnet program, which went live last week. Find all the core info you need to know right here 👇 https://t.co/uOtfwNZrbH

the company also published documentation for developers that want to use the KEVM but ETH developers can now write dapps in Solidity and simply deploy them on Cardano to take advantage of the lower fees of the blockchain and to get improved functionality. The IOHK new KEV devnet is the latest effort coming from IOHK when it comes to the upcoming smart contract functionality. Other devnets like IELE and Glow are set to be deployed in the following weeks.
Tim Harrison, the IOHK marketing and communications director revealed that the core development work was already done and will be deployed in January 2021. The IELE devnet will focus on ensuring that all programming languages are compatible with Cardano and will allow developers to build blockchain solutions regardless of the chosen programming language.
