Cardano officially launches the Daedalus 1.0 mainnet wallet which is a full node wallet for ADA users. Daedalus provides a highly secure transaction system and a refined UI. The future versions of the platform will support custom tokens and much more as we are reading further in the Cardano news.
The new release is a part of the Cardano transition from Byron to Shelly. IOHK launched Daedalus 1.0 which was the first version generally available of the full node wallet for the Cardano blockchain and the ADA token. The main feature of the Daedalus is the full node wallet which means that the wallet downloads the Cardano full ledger of transactions to the device. This process will provide more security since Daedalus doesn’t rely on third parties to perform the transactions all the way that the light wallets such as Yoroi do. The users do not need to trust any other third party.
The download process takes quite a while but not too long according to Charles Hoskinson who is the CEO of IOHK. He suggested that it takes about 15-90 minutes to download the blockchain and about 30 minutes more to restore the wallet. Hoskinson noted that the wallet offers speed, elegance, and quality while the product manager Darko Mijic demonstrated the functionally of the wallet in the following YouTube video:
Some of the Secondary features include support for multiple Cardano wallets which are compatible with three major operating systems such as the integrated newsfeed and a themeable interface. Hoskinson noted that the Daedalus wallet will support the security tokens and custom tokens as well as the enterprise functions such as the ad-tech and supply chain tracing since all of these features will be available.
Cardano officially launches the Daedalus as a part of the Byron Reboot which went live at the start of the month. Byron Reboot serves as an interim period between Cardano’s Byron era and the upcoming Shelley era. Once the Shelley mainnet goes live, it will start offering staking rewards to all of the users which is a feature that was available to the early participants on the staking testnet of Cardano since December.
Cardano has chosen not to provide a precise release date for the Shelley but with the latest update, it seems that IOHK will start rolling out the new infrastructure in May.
