Cardano Introduced Smash: New Stake Pool Metadata Aggregation Server

Cardano introduced Smash which is the new open-source stake pool metadata aggregator server that will bring a better and more accurate source of stake pool info. Smash is a server that can store, fetch and aggregate metadata like pool name, owner details, and homepage as we are reading more in the latest Cardano ADA news.

The server code is open source and is deployed by anyone according to IOHK and Smash will also be completely adopted by the community at some point in the future. In order to address the needs for the growing staking ecosystem on ADA, Cardano introduced the new open-source stake pool metadata aggregation server named Smash. Smash was unveiled earlier today with IOHK noting that it is the latest in the many steps that the company took to further decentralize.

The company said that the new server which includes things like owner details, homepages, pool description, pool tickers, and more is something that the ADA holders will need to have easier access to so they can make an informed decision about who to delegate the funds to. All of the data was initially fetched by the Daedalus wallet from each stake pool separately which requires a lot of network connections and impacting the wallet’s performance overall.

The Smash server will host all of the data on one single server which will simplify the process of aggregating, storing, and fetching info about stake pools. Aside from making sure that stake pools registered on the Cardano network are valid, Smash will help avoid duplicated ticker names as well as trademarks but will also make sure that they don’t offer offensive content which will violate certain guidelines:

 “Given that scams, trolls, and abusive behavior are an unfortunate part of life online, we had to find a way of filtering potentially problematic actors out of the playing field.”

According to IOHK, Smash will be run by a designated team in the company but it was designed to be open-source while trying to make it more interesting to the ADA community. In the blog post, IOHK explained that smash will have a huge impact on Daedalus and will bring more customization abilities. The Daedalus wallet will allow users to configure a custom server that will display charity stake pools from a particular region or country. The company also said that they believe Smash will be adopted by the community fast.
