The seafood giant based in the United States named Bumble Bee Foods has recently partnered with a German tech company SAP Cloud Platform Blockchain – in order to launch a blockchain platform that will trace the journey of the yellowfin tuna from the Indonesian oceans to your dinner table.
The new launch is everywhere in the digital currency news. As the original press release noted, both of the companies will continue to innovate and improve upon the seafood traceability as more and more users demand to know if their food is safe and sustainably sourced.
When it comes to the platform, it is designed to monitor the supply chain of yellowfin tuna from Indonesia to end customers. SAP’s blockchain technology will allow consumers and customers to easily access the complete origin and history of Bumble Bee Foods’ Natural Blue by Anova yellowfin tuna by using their smartphones and scanning QR codes on the product package.
According to the CIO at Bumble Bee foods Tony Costa, SAP lets the company track fish from the moment it is caught and as it travels around the world, telling the story of each tuna and positively impacting the ecosystems and lives of people all the way down the line.
As Costa said:
“Bumble Bee has long been an industry leader in tracing its seafood products, and the addition of SAP’s blockchain technology allows us to further elevate our efforts in complete transparency with consumers and customers, providing assurance that their fish is fresh and it’s been sourced fairly according to our commitments to the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation.”
By adopting blockchain, Bumble Bee Foods can now store data and create a tamper-proof supply chain history which can be shared and seen by its customers worldwide. The data will include the size of the catch, the point of capture and information related to the authenticity, freshness, safety and trade fishing certification.
According to the senior vice president of SAP Innovative Business Solutions, this solution “reates transparency and traceability across the food supply chain, from the ocean, across the cold chain, to the warehouse, store and our table.”
“When we help enterprises like Bumble Bee to make innovation real, we support the consumer’s need to know and reinforce their faith in the brands they trust,” he concluded.
