A hospital located in Taiwan and named Taipei Medical University Hospital has recently introduced a blockchain-driven platform for the advancement of its medical record-keeping. According to the announcement, the platform is meant to improve the medical record-keeping at the hospital.
Named ‘The Healthcare Blockchain Platform’, this system will be used to improve the patient referral services and will integrate individual healthcare networks for people to access their medical records with ease.
Taipei Times published a report about the blockchain platform, describing it as a one-stop referral and long-term care service that will work in support of the government Hierarchical Medical System policy.
The project also incorporated more than 100 community-based clinics and put the use of blockchain technology to address the “common pain points” in healthcare. These will include the transfer of data between medical institutions, personal patent portals as well as physician referral processes, according to the statement released by the hospital.
One of the superintendents of the hospital spoke to the news outlet and said that this technology will be the bridge to synchronizing electronic medical records with electronic health records from different clinics and hospitals. On top of this, it will also come with a security feature of notification and consent before any of the transfers occurs.
In April 2018, the Camelot Consulting Group from Germany also introduced a similar blockchain platform that was developed to handle the sensitive medical data in a hospital.
