South Korea Official Proposes First Blockchain Voting Platform

A South Korea official proposes the country’s first blockchain voting platform as the head of the Seocho regional government proposed the new idea for residents as we are reading more in today’s blockchain news.

A day ago, the head of the Seocho regional government, a South Korea official proposed a blockchain-powered voting platform, praising the influx of crypto-related developments across the country. According to UpDown Korea, the local government leader Cho Eun-hee, of Seoul, believes that this is the right time to start using blockchain technology and for every citizen to propose their opinions.

The official from Seocho said the country will take on a greater role in the “rapidly changing modern society” during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, referring to the recent decentralized innovations as the new industrial revolution. If this proposal becomes a reality, it will be the first blockchain platform in the country which will allow citizens to decide on their local political affairs. Cho also stated that the blockchain technology is the most suitable for upgrading democracy:

“In the future, we plan to realize a direct democracy that everyone can trust by actively introducing blockchain to prevent security and forgery, and to this end, various businesses such as a blockchain academy that combines blockchain and administration, and smart senior business will be implemented.”

The government official believes that the new efforts will be the foundation of the nationwide blockchain adoption in the region and this platform will allow citizens to engage in secure political discourse. Back in April, the Vice Minister of Finance and Strategy Koo Jun-Cheol, said that the blockchain market is a “golden opportunity” for South Korea and called on the private sector companies to exploit the potential.
