Solana’s network is reportedly greener than Google according to a new report as one transaction on the blockchain requires less energy than two Google searches so let’s read more in today’s blockchain latest news.
Solana emerged as a great alternative to a host of blockchains and the network is not only efficient when it came to conducting transactions but it is also greener than web browsing giant Google as per the latest report. At a time when the carbon footprint of Proof of Work-based assets came under scrutiny, Solana’s latest Energy Use Report 2021, shows a brand new trend taking shape which pushes towards a greener crypto space.
According to the report, the Solana foundation determined that one single transaction on the blockchain takes 0.00051 kWh or 1,836 joules of energy so to put things into perspective, the report posed a myriad of activities that consumes more energy, for example, one Google search consumed around 1080 joules. This means that two Google searches will consume more energy than one transaction on the network. The transaction on Solana requires 24 times less energy than charging a mobile phone which means it is less energy exhausting than keeping an LED light bulb for one hour that consumes up to 36,000 joules.
What’s even more interesting is that the entire network uses around 3,186,000 kWh per year which is equivalent to the average electricity usage of 986 households in the states. In the meantime, across the world, leaders are bickering about the efforts to minimize carbon emissions but for the crypto sector, The Solana Foundation seems to be keen on working towards carbon neutrality. The organization vowed to reduce the SOL ecosystem’s effects and the plans for the rest of 2021 include the introduction of a program that will assist in the making of the validator network carbon neutral and offset the footprint of the ecosystem.
In addition to these steps, the foundation revealed that it will release reports on the energy stats of the project and it seems that Solana is the faster and less energy-consuming alternative to Ethereum which has been riddled with high gas fees and electricity bills that is very expensive. Solana is not the only one that is putting huge efforts into going green with few platforms working towards becoming energy-efficient like Ripple and Avalanche.
