ATM provider Alhamrani Universal (AU) from Saudi Arabia has partnered with a blockchain identity platform ShoCard in order to develop a blockchain-based biometric ATM (automated teller machine) according to a press release that reached our crypto news today.
The collaboration between the AU provider and ShoCard means a new type of ATM will be delivered combining the blockchain technology and biometrics as a part of the five-factor authentication process. The new ATM will allow customers to use blockchain-based apps for facial recognition in order to withdraw funds.
Also, the machines will be able to be in contact with all of the banks in the region while the blockchain will allow for the users’ identities to be confirmed without accessing the bank’s databases. The CEO of ShoCard Armin Ebrahimi said that the blockchain can help the customers protect their identity while also help the banks verify that a certain withdrawal is legitimate.
Alhamrani Universal was founded in 1981 and it is currently the largest ATM provider in the Middle East with more than 50 percent of the ATM market share in all Saudi Arabia.
Blockchain is now a widely adopted identity management system in that part of the world. Also, in identity management news, the commercial Oracle Blockchain Platform announced the expansion of the platform including identity management and data integration features but also integrating the blockchain technology with other data resources.
Also, last year, the American software corporation Microsoft, released a blockchain-powered Azure development kit that has multiple identity off-chain and data monitoring features such as messaging application programming interfaces that can be used to develop blockchain-based apps.
