The US government seems to be active on the crypto and blockchain scene. The best way to prove this is from the latest news – in which the US government decided to help and fund a distributed ledger platform that is currently being developed by researchers at the University of California – San Diego.
According to the NSF’s website, one researcher and software architect with the Data Enabled Scientific Computing division named Subhashini Sivagnanam won $818,433 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in order to develop the Open Science Chain (OSC) which is a distributed ledger that will help researchers access and verify data collected through scientific experiments.
NSF is a long-standing organization which serves as a key conduit for research initiatives in the US – especially when it comes to tapping federal resources. So far, the government organization has funded a lot of projects including ones that were focused on cryptocurrency incentive mechanisms and blockchain technology use cases.
Right now, the public records show that this project will focus on “a web-based cyberinfrastructure platform built using distributed ledger technologies that allow researchers to provide metadata and verification information about their scientific datasets and update this information as the datasets change and evolve over time in an auditable manner.”
According to the abstract, the network would definitely resemble a digital catalog of their work as more information is being developed and added. Most importantly, every researcher will be able to trust the data they are examining.
