Rap legends Eminem and Snoop Dogg will perform together (Bored Apes Track) on Sunday at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), drawing inspiration from the Otherside metaverse and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs.
The Otherside is a collaboration between Yuga Labs’ BAYC and NFT financing, as well as gaming titan Animoca Brands.
The worldwide rap superstars will give Otherside some huge mainstream exposure by converting the VMAs stage into its style for their latest joint tune ‘From the D 2 the LBC,’ in collaboration with Otherside founder Yuga Labs. However, specifics on the performance are scarce at this point.
The addition of a “Best Metaverse Performance” category to the VMAs’ annual awards ceremony seems to be a signal to the music industry that Metaverse performances need greater attention. Justin Bieber, Rift Tour (with Ariana Grande), and Twenty One Pilots are among the nominees.

The VMAs may believe that by embracing the Metaverse, they may increase their shrinking audience. Following a record of 12.4 million viewers in 2011, the awards have suffered a continuous reduction in popularity, with the 900,000 who turned in live to watch the awards on MTV signifying the 8th consecutive year that viewership has decreased.
The two are competing for the title of “Best Hip Hop” in their first joint effort in 20 years. Both Eminen and Snoop Dogg are collectors of BAYC NFTs, and the song’s music video (Bored Ape Track) extensively contains NFT material. Snoop Dogg has also recently appeared in Esther Anaya’s EDM tune BAYC, as well as an animated video of Bored Apes and other NFTs.
Eminem purchased a hip-hop-clad Bored Ape on December 31 for 123.45 ETH, and he also owns 28 more NFTs under the name Shady Holdings. Snoop Dog is a considerably more active NFT player, with cooperation with The Sandbox resulting in ‘The Doggies’ collection of NFTs and the acquisition of a Bored Ape on December 22.
Rap legends Eminem and Snoop Dogg will perform together, and we can’t wait to see the performance.
The Otherside & its Voyagers
The Otherside is an interoperable, gamified Metaverse that is presently in beta development. The platform offers Otherdeed NFTs, whose owners are referred to as “Voyagers,” to symbolize digital ownership of land plots in the BAYC-affiliated virtual world.
Otherside will allow interoperability in the future, providing Voyagers a chance to bring their own outside collections and NFTs to life within our metaverse, according to the litepaper.
Otherdeed NFT sales have surpassed $1 billion to date, according to CryptoSlam statistics, with $23.5 million in volume arriving in the last 30 days. The collection’s top-tier NFTs are likewise in high demand, with one plot for as much as 333.33 ETH (now worth $565,289) four months ago.
On July 16, The Otherside opened its metaverse to the public for the first time, with 4500 people able to enter and explore the virtual environment. Only Voyagers and chosen third-party developers were allowed to attend, and based on tweets from supporters, the voyage appears to have been a huge success.
