OpenSea Hired Its First CFO From Lyft – Brian Roberts

OpenSea hired its first CFO and that would be Brian Roberts as the former CFO of the ride-sharing app Lyft according to the latest reports that we have today in our crypto news.

The booming NFT marketplace OpenSea hired its first CFO from Lyft, Brian Roberts who previously worked as a head of global corporate development at Microsoft before he joined Walmart and worked there for three years to lead its mergers and acquisitions. While the new CFO has no experience in the crypto sector, he said that the emerging Web3 and NFT sector reminds him of the mid-90s eBay.

Robert’s position at Lyft will be filled by ex-Amazon Studious and HULU CFO Elaine Paul. The trading on OpenSea swelled since August and often averages over a million NFTs sold every month as per the data collected by Dune Analytics. Since the summer, the marketplace attracted about 300,000 active users a month while the daily volume of ETH traded on the platform but almost never drops below $50 million. Compared to the competitors like Rarible and SuperRare, it is surely a winner. Despite the massive growth, Roberts will still like to raise more funds for the platform and while he did acknowledge that OpenSea is not really in need of fundings to survive, his roadmap for the future sees raising some extra investments which the company could use for acquisitions and partnerships to promote the growth of the NFT sector.

Roberts hinted that an OpenSea IPO could soon be an offer which means that the equity in the company will be sold to the public on stock exchanges for the first time ever and he even noted that with the growth of the platform, “you would be foolish not to think about it going public.”

As recently reported, OpenSea will collaborate with Christie’s like the most legendary auction house in order to hold a series of curated NFT auctions. OpenSea will collaborate with Christie’s to launch a curated NFT auction and their initial one will be open for browsing Until December 3 while bidding will commence on the 4^th of December. The collaboration will enable bidding and payments to be made via the Ethereum network.
