The National Basketball Association is in the latest cryptocurrency news for a move with which it heads to new success. As the news show, the NBA teams up with Dapper Labs (known as the company behind CryptoKitties) to create a blockchain based and tokenized marketplace for NBA highlights.
Long known as one of the most progressive sports leagues in the world, the NBA announced the news officially – saying that it is bringing a new blockchain-based game called NBA Top Shot. Now that NBA teams up with Dapper Labs, we can expect a lot of headlines on many best cryptocurrency news sites.
Aside from the NBA, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) has teamed up with Dapper Labs to create the blockchain-based marketplace for NBA highlights. As the announcement from Dapper Labs showed, fans will be able to “collect, trade, and own some of the greatest moments in league history on blockchain.”

It seems like NBA teams up with organizations just at the right time. As the CEO of Dapper Labs Roham Gharegozlou explained the idea:
“Through NBA Top Shot basketball fans can engage with their favorite players, teams, and each other in entirely new ways. We use the latest in blockchain technology to create assets and experiences that are guaranteed limited edition and authentic, not to mention portable and permanent in a way nothing digital has ever been before.”
For those of you who don’t follow our altcoin news, Dapper Labs is already an established name in the digital collectibles arena with the massive and popular game CryptoKitties. Some of the digital felines in the game were at one point selling for more than $100k, while the trading activity clogged up the entire Ethereum network.
Now that NBA teams up with Dapper Labs, the massive audience that follows the most popular basketball league in the world will have a chance to get into the world of blockchain and dig deeper in the token economy. As stats show, single NBA games have recorded more than 40 million viewers in 2016.
When it comes to popularity, the NBA has never been bigger on social media. A report by ESPN showed that NBA players are only outshined by soccer players when it comes to most famous athletes in the world.
