Earlier this month, the McAfee Labs Threat Report shows that this year there has been a huge increase in crypto mining malware activity and according to the latest crypto news, the increase reaches up to 4,000 percent.
According to the report, the increase began in the last quarter of 2017 and continued to the first quarter of 2018. During the second quarter of 2018, the percentage dropped but soon later increased again right at the end of the second quarter.
Crypto-criminals are targeting miners with a brand new crypto jacking malware. They have also targeted people who use routers or IoT devices such as video recorders.
McAfee also showed other examples of how crypto-criminals attacked the users of messenger services such as Telegram by infecting their computer with mining malware. Some of the other main topics in the report discussed the increase in underground forums were criminals create groups and make plans for the hack attacks.
The American software company from California, McAfee Labs is strongly dedicated to beat cybersecurity. The company is a part of Intel when it was purchased in 2011 and it is known for its antivirus software.
Another Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky Labs is working against cyber-crime where their report also shows a 40 percent increase in cryptojacking in 2018 only.
Kaspersky Labs are also antivirus software creators and they talked about the massive increase in cryptojacking cases that reached 13 million in 2018. Since crypto is close to reaching mass adoption, the cyber-crimes are also on the increase.
