MasterCard, one of the leading payment processors in the world, recently announced that their team needs 175 new technology developers – including blockchain specialists. The company which is based in Leopardstown, Ireland will hire specialists who will be working on creating more efficient payment systems.
In an official press release, MasterCard confirmed this and said that they are working on expanding their access to financial services. Sonya Geelon who is Ireland’s country manager, stated:
“We’re driving projects that promote financial inclusion at home and abroad, and are working to provide consumers, businesses and governments with the most innovative, safe and secure ways to pay.”
The payment giant has been eyeing applications of blockchain for some time now. After releasing a set of experimental blockchain-based APIs in 2016, MasterCard told CoinDesk that their goal is “to give developers the chance to work on new and emerging technologies that aren’t commercialized yet”.
It’s safe to say that the company’s blockchain ambitions are huge – just like their efforts to obtain a patent that is related to the blockchain tech.
