The well known and popular international tech and IT firm Cisco is in the headlines on our DC Forecasts crypto news site today – this time for opening a brand new Co-Innovative Center in Singapore.
According to reports by the Bangkok Post, the CTO of the company said that the new center (one of 14 worldwide) will focus on new technologies in the region. The three core technologies which will be in its focus are blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT) and cybersecurity.
Meanwhile, Cisco will also offer various prototypes and display many potential applications of new technology in various contexts, as well as in public administration and education. One of them is the Rotterdam Project in which various aspects of port operation (vehicles, cargo, cranes, rails etc.) will be fully automated by year 2023.
Cisco has been actively focusing on blockchain over the past couple of years. In 2017, the firm joined the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA) which is the largest open-source blockchain project in the world.
On top of this, Cisco filed for a patent with the US Patent and Trademark Office for a method of confidential group communications based on blockchain. An excerpt from it reads the following:
“How group membership is established, communicated, updated, and secured from unauthorized tampering are common problems for which a construct is not available that can be effective in the context of dynamic, decentralized, and self-organizing group,”
