The computing giant IBM adds another blockchain patent to its group of patents with a new implementation focused on interactions for self-driving vehicles or better known as autonomous vehicles. Following the latest blockchain news, the patent was published by the Patent and Trademark Office of the United States.
The patent, according to IBM, outlines the parameters that can be used to check on the nearby driver behavior with multiple sensor technologies. All of them will be used to optimize risk assessment. IBM has filed previously extensive patents for inventions such as autonomous cars with a blockchain system that can enhance the SDV configurations by increasing privacy.
The blockchain patent will be able to asses the behavior of the driver by using sensor technologies. The risk assessment will also be improved by using the prediction model for the maneuver of the nearby drivers and vehicles.
The patent document outlines:
“Observing, detecting, and sensing of the driver behavior data can be collected by the in-vehicle sensors of the driver’s vehicle in real-time and uploaded onto a cloud data hub, designated […] as a Mobility Information Hub (MIH), to which the SDV can subscribe to.’’
IBM believes that the blockchain technology can improve the complex construction and will enhance the real-time use of environmental analytics. The prediction models will also be improved after the full data functionality will be enabled but also keeping the privacy of the users.
According to the computing giant, the sensor data will be logged on the blockchain system where the public key infrastructure will be used to generate:
‘’The right public-private pair associate to each SDV/driver, wherein each data uploading or accessing transaction is cryptographically signed using private key.’’
The patent document also shows that the system will only allow entities which have the authorization to access the data. Further, the document shows that an SDV can check up on the behavior of the nearby drivers in real-time by using a blockchain client application. For example, this can be done by scanning a nearby license plate number.
As previously reported, another giant this time from the car manufacturing industry, General Motors, also filed its own blockchain patent for managing data solutions from autonomous vehicles.
