While speaking for an interview with a Harvard Law Professor Jonathan Zittrain, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook co-founder, and CEO said that he is looking into the option to replace Facebook Connect login service with a distributed, blockchain based system.

Let’s find out more about his idea in today’s blockchain news.
Zuckerberg said:
“You basically take your information, you store it on some decentralized system, and you have the choice of whether to log in in different places, and you’re not going through an intermediary.’’
He says that there are a lot of good things about his idea. For example, developers won’t have to trouble as much working with their unique system and will end up eliminating the intermediary between people who use the services and the providers itself.
Facebook CEO also continued to explain how the interest around decentralized logins is growing since last year crypto exchange Coinbase already acquired Distributed Systems which is a startup focused on decentralized identity use cases.
If Facebook adopts the new distributed login system, users can have more control over what third-party groups have access to their data. The decentralized nature could make it much more difficult to prevent third-party groups to take advantages of the FB users.
The question remains which blockchain would Facebook choose since the company denied a meeting with the Stellar Team last year and Etheruem is already a high-profile blockchain.
The social media giant has formed a blockchain team and placed FB Messenger head David Marcus to lead the entire department. These actions show that Facebook has intentions to develop a blockchain from scratch and take a completely new route for their login systems.
