EU Data Experts Are Creating A Blockchain-Based Coronavirus Passport

The latest coronavirus crypto news show us how two French and one Estonian company teamed up in order to launch a new blockchain-based “COVID-19 health passport” which protects people’s privacy. The EU data experts from three companies are now working on a decentralized COVID-19 health passport based on blockchain technology which would store test records.

As the developers claim, their system poses no risk to personal privacy and is fully compliant with the GDPR. The three European companies are jointly developing this coronavirus blockchain passport which will help governments to monitor the population’s state of immunity in real-time.

What’s also interesting is that this passport will be updated with coronavirus test results. In that manner, if you have the coronavirus, the result will be timestamped in order to ensure that it cannot be falsified – after which it will be updated in real time.

The EU data experts are working on this COVID-19 blockchain technology passport which will run on the KSI blockchain developed by the Estonian blockchain company Guardtime. The Swiss security company SICPA and the French health platform OpenHealth will also collaborate along with a database of 20 million French patients which are also working on the project.

Speaking of which, the system will be used to create unfalsifiable health certificates based on antibody test results.

“The KSI Blockchain will make it impossible to falsify and the health data on these certificates will be used by the OpenHealth platform to follow the evolution of deconfinement and management of the crisis, following the model of flu pandemics,” SICPA wrote in a press release.

In this manner, the participants need only a smartphone or a computer to sign up, and all personal data is annonymized. No central database maintains the patient records, according to the SICPA.

These EU data experts are one of the first to think of blockchain in this revolutionary way. But as we previously reported, numerous governments around the world began to roll out increasingly intrusive mass surveillance systems in an attempt to slow down the coronavirus pandemic.
