In a bold move, Almonit has released a decentralized web search engine for the decentralized web (dWeb), this is the first version of their decentralized private search engine. Everyone that has a decentralized browser or plugin at almonit.eth have access to the engine, also all others that will plugin at almonti.eth.link have also access.
The most important thing to mention is that the search engine itself is decentralized. It is served through IPFS and accessed using ENS (for this later). The point is that the user can access and carry out searches without the help, interference or knowledge of Almonit. As we are reading further in the blockchain news below, the decentralized web search engine is private wholesomely, because searches are made on the client end, which means that nobody knows what you searched for.
At this moment the engine searches only throughout the 106 (and growing) famous decentralized websites (dWebsites), listed in its directory. There are two technologies that are the foundation of the decentralized web. Ethereum Name Server (ENS) is the decentralized domain name service, which replaces the known DNS in the conventional web.
The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) with its ambitious name, is a peer-to-peer protocol for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system. It is a substitute for HTTP and has in it certain elements of peer-to-peer sharing platforms such as BitTorrent. The good thing about these technologies is that it produces an ungoverned web which is bigger, resistant to censorship, efficient and permanent. So now you can be sure that your favorite memes will continue to last until the end of time.
If you are eager to become part of this and your site to become decentralized then the things you need to do are: upload the files into IPFS, and attach the resulting hash to your ENS name (under the presumptuous that you already have one). The files are after that accessible via a decentralized browser (or extension) at the .eth address. Users of the standard browsers have to add .link to the end of this address to make it load normal websites. dWebsites are suited concretely to front ends for dApps, but can also be used for other things. The number of dWebsites will probably grow, just like dApps have grown.
