Crypto Exchange CEO Runs For Mayor Of Taipei Making It A ‘Pioneer Blockchain City’

The CEO of major over-the-counter (OTC) crypto exchange OTCBTC and a winner of the Facebook hackathon event Yi-Ting Cheng (known as xdite) has announced her plans on running for mayor of the Taiwanese capital city Taipei this year.

In his Facebook post on April 14th, Cheng revealed the news. She is currently known as a world-class developer and hacker. After winning the Global Grand Prize at Facebook’s 2012 Hackathon, she served as the Chief Technical Officer at China’s ico.info platform and run a major full-stack coding camp in China.

Currently, Cheng’s OTCBTC is ranked #68 on CoinMarketCap’s list of cryptocurrency exchanges by 24-hour trading volume. However, Chang likes to describe it as the “largest OTC exchange in Asia.”

As Cheng wrote on her Facebook:

“With 8 candidates running for mayor, most of them are nearly 60 years old or older than 70. None of them know what’s going on in the world, nor what challenges or competition we face […] This person needs to have the money, the guts, the passion, and experience running a team/company.”

Making Taipei an advanced city as it once was is the main aim for Cheng. Her political platform rests on this idea and says that the city must develop a “regulation friendly” environment – benefitting from its close proximity to Japan, South Korea, and China – countries that are giving it great potential to become “the pioneer blockchain city in Asia.”

In January 2018, Taipei partnered with IOTA to provide new technological innovation for residents including ID cards for tracking citizens’ data and sensors for detecting pollution levels.
