The company that many describe as “the BitTorrent of China” has announced the launch of its new distributed file system that is aimed at supporting blockchain platforms.
For the Chinese technology company named Xunlei Limited, this plan helps support blockchain development. The news came out during a ceremony hosted in Shenzhen, China – as the company unveiled the winners of the international blockchain application competition that it sponsored.
The new file system will include the ThunderChain File System (TCFS), as well as three ThunderChain Request for Comments (TRC) standards. As such, it will combine the existing features of platforms like IPFS and filecoin while adding new security and flexibility tools.
Even though Xunlei announced it was launching ThunderChain in April this year, the official announcement comes months later. Still, describing the new blockchain as one that is able to “process capacity in the millions of transactions per second” is entirely true.
As the CEO of Xunlei Lei Chen stated:
“That is why we introduced ThunderChain File System and other new initiatives as we continue to help developers unleash the real value of blockchain. We are also delighted to see a large number of practical blockchain projects developed during the challenge and would like to thank everyone for their great contribution.”
The new TCFS, according to the release, is built for blockchain platforms like ThunderChain, where the TRC standards are aimed to help build up the ecosystem by allowing third parties to build upon the company’s blockchain.
