The world’s largest crypto exchange Binance has its own charity arm which recently launched its pilot blockchain-based school lunch program in Africa according to a blog post that we take a closer look in today’s blockchain news.
Binance Charity Foundation issued its charity campaign ‘’Lunch for Children’’ in Kampala, Uganda. The program is set to provide two meals per day for the entire school year to more than 200 students but also for the school staff.
The pilot program launched in Uganda is a part of a bigger campaign run by Binance that aims to help nearly one million students in schools across schools in third-world countries such as Ethiopia, Kenya, and Rwanda.
According to the blog post, the donations were initialized at a ceremony where more than 500 participants attended most of which were blockchain-based companies and privacy-oriented firms such as Zcoin and non-profit Kenya-based organization Dream Building Service.
The Zcoin team donated more than $24,000 worth of crypto to support the pilot program. Also, the Minister of State for Primary Education of Uganda, Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde, pointed out that the pilot program is not only a donation but guaranteed protection from third-party corruption.
