The French retail giant that already implemented blockchain technology a long time ago Carrefour will now be using blockchain again in order to better track the milk supply chain according to a press release that reached our blockchain news today.
At the start of March, the retail giant is slowly exposing its new blockchain-powered product named Carrefour Quality Line micro-filtered full-fat milk. The Carrefour Quality Line (CQL) aims to guarantee the consumers that the product has gone through a complete traceability phase across the entire supply chain starting at the farmers’ doorstep to the store shelves at the end.
With the CQL, all of the consumers will be able to see the GPS coordinates from the farmers where the milk was initially collected but also to get all of the needed information about when the milk was collected, packaged but also to find out about the multiple stakeholders that are involved in the product line.
The new product by Carrefour has gone through a number of multiple blockchain implementations before by the major global food retailer. For example, in November 2018, Carrefour launched a food tracking solution that is powered by Hyperledger in order to track all of the free-range chickens that are branded as Calidad y Origen in Spain. Before this, the retail giant joined the blockchain-enabled food tracking network by IBM named the Food Trust which includes major food producers such as Golden State Foods and Nestle.
By the end of 2017, another French retailer Auchan, expanded its FoodChain solution to about five countries after they tested the TE-FOOD’s blockchain tool in Vietnam. This blockchain product enabled retailers to have a better monitoring system for selected product categories and will now be available in Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal.
