The nurse worked in Sydney for 44 years before she saw an ad on the internet that offered BTC by using a fake celebrity endorsement.
At the start, she invested $350 in the scam and entered her email address and phone number into the online form. The scammers later set up a new account for her where she continued to transfer funds. Rhonda made slight returns from her investment when she started initially and said she enjoyed good communication with the people behind the scam. However later, they advised her to buy a car or something else with some of the returns but she never did. The woman aimed to make more money online but when checking her account, she noticed that the money invested was gone. The Australian officials were trying to find the scammers and help Rhonda restore her money but with no success so far. The nurse said that her plans of retirement are now gone:
”I always think, there’s probably someone worse off than me. I’m healthy, I’ve got a good attitude to keep going. I’m just taking it one week at a time.”
After the recent drop in prices on the market, most digital assets are now a long way away from their highs. Bitcoin lost a huge chunk of its dollar value during the past few weeks which caused a major panic on the market and after these events, Australian Minister Jane Hume advised the public about the risks regarding crypto trading. She stated that the digital assets aren’t the only risky assets but they are the most unstable ones:
”They are volatile and high-risk assets and investors must be aware of these risks.”
