A new fake website emerged over the past few days that was representing digital assets platform Bakkt aiming to scam people through its domain ‘’bakktplatform.io’’ but we can see in today’s crypto news did it succeed.
The fake website claims that the platform launch will happen on March 12 and for that reason, investors will have a chance to participate in a funding round that will accept only Bitcoin.
The official data was found on the real Bakkt Blog which the scammers used to promote how the upcoming digital asset platform has already raised $182.5 million and therefore another investment round is needed for all of those who are interested and didn’t have a chance in the first round.
The new funding round was supposed to close on February 25 and all of the investors should have provided their name and email address. However, the scam failed since there were zero emails provided and zero transactions as of the time of writing.
The Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) announced back in August 2018, Bakkt has previously hoped for a launch in late January this year. However, the company didn’t make it in time so a new date is awaited.
Currently, the fake Bakkt website is included in the warning list of the browser extension for the Ethereum network- MetaMask bus it’s still available. The homepage of the website offers a downloadable .exe application that claims a free trial to the futures markets.
The official Bakkt still hasn’t responded with any announcements.
