The Indian PM Modi’s Twitter account was hacked with more than 73.4 million followers and the attackers tried to perform a BTC Scam right away, sharing misleading information about a BTC giveaway and the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin so let’s read more about today’s bitcoin scam news.
The Indian PM Modi’s Twitter account got compromised earlier today and was then used to share misleading information about the adoption of Bitcoin and a giveaway of 500 BTC among the Indian citizens. Modi said in a virtual summit hosted by the US President that these technologies such as crypto should be used to empower democracy and should not undermine it:
“By working together, democracies can meet the aspirations of our citizens and celebrate the democratic spirit of humanity.”

While the Lok Sabha Winter Sessions was long-awaited in order to discuss the legality of crypto in the region, the event didn’t conclude the government’s stance on crypto hackers from unknown origins that managed to take control of the account with more than 70 million followers to declare BTC as a legal tender. While the hack happened at midnight, Twitter user Priya was among the many wake enthusiasts that took notice of the tweet that read:
“India has officially adopted Bitcoin as legal tender. The government has officially bought 500 BTC and is distributing them to all residents of the country. The future has come today!”
The post included a link that urged the investors to sign up and claim their share of BTC but this was already the second time that Modi’s Twitter account got hacked and was used to perform crypto scams. Right after the scam, the tweet was deleted and the hack was confirmed by the Prime minister. The hackers were able to breach Modi’s Twitter back in 2020 under the pseudo name “John Wick” where the hackers shared several tweets asking the PM to donate a generous amount to the PM National Relief Fund for COVID-19.
The Twitter handle of PM @narendramodi was very briefly compromised. The matter was escalated to Twitter and the account has been immediately secured.
In the brief period that the account was compromised, any Tweet shared must be ignored.

The launch of the Indian crypto bill sparked many controversies about the ban of private cryptocurrencies so the meaning of private has yet to be interpreted in the next parliamentary meeting because the lack of information sparked a lot of panic among investors. Clearing out the speculations around the crypto bill discussions, former Finance Secretary Subhash Garh who created the bill, dismissed the notion of banning private cryptocurrencies:
“[The description of the crypto bill] was perhaps a mistake. It is misleading to say that private cryptocurrencies will be banned and to intimate the government about the same.”
