The hackers rename Indian Medical Association Twitter’s account as well as the ones of the Indian Council of World Affairs and Mann Deshi Mahila Bank. The Twitter accounts got changed to the handle “Elon Musk” and initiated a crypto scam. After carrying out the cyber outbreak, the hackers posted a lot of tweets promoting cryptocurrencies and they changed the name and the profile picture of the Indian Medical Association account with one of Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk.
The bad actors shared a few tweets claiming to be the business magnate himself and continuously replied to the posts from his name. Experts believe that the hack attack is a result of a password being compromised or a malicious link being clicked by the account users. The Indian Council of World Affairs had its case solved fast but the malicious tweets are still visible ont eh other accounts.
Last month, a similar attack compromised the Twitter account of the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, and while under the control of the perpetrators, the account published a post of a Bitcoin giveaway scam. The malicious tweet said the second-most populated nation adopted the primary cryptocurrency as a legal tender and it was declared that the government purchased 500 BTC and it is distributing them to the residents in the country. This is not the first time that Twitter accounts of well-known organizations or prominent figures were compromised. Back in 2020, Cybercriminals hacked accounts that belong to Barack Obama, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and other industry executives.
Similar to the previous attacks of this type, the perpetrators posted a scam from the name of the hacked accounts and asked people to send BTC to certain addresses. They also promised to double the BTC funds. Similar to the previous attacks of this type, the hackers posted a scam from the name of the hacked people asking the victims to send BTC to a certain address. They promised to double their funds in the scam. Twitter is not the only platform that is mostly used to perform scams by cybercriminals. Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak also initiated a lawsuit against YouTube after a lot of scams with his involvement and the bad actors impersonated him and promoted fake BTC giveaways which targeted countless victims.
