Electronics giant’s Xiaomi shops in Portugal will start accepting Bitcoin payments after partnering with Utrust to unlock this new feature in five cryptocurrencies as we can see more in our latest Bitcoin news.
Chinese electronics manufacturer Xiaomi is the latest company to get involved in the crypto industry as its Xiaomi shops in Portugal will start accepting BTC payments. Mi Store Portugal is the official Xiaomi retailer which announced on Facebook that it now allows customers to buy devices using five cryptocurrencies like ETH, BTC, Tether, Dash, and UTK token. According to the official website, customers can select the option to pay with crypto at checkout.
The new payment option is enabled via a partnership with Utrust which is a European blockchain tech payment platform and the Twitter account of Utrust said:
“Xiaomi is the second-largest phone manufacturer in the world, and now their local branch is accepting the Money of Tomorrow.”
According to the data from the Counterpoint analysis firm, Xiaomi surpassed global smartphone giant Apple as the second-biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world in the second quarter of the year. Mi Store Portugal which is the official Xiaomi retailer accepts crypto payments as the twitter announcement read:

Mi Store Portugal is the only official retailer of Xiaomi’s certified products in the country and operates under the European Legislation as the website noted. The firm now has six physical stores nationwide and is in the process of expansion. Pedro Maia who is the marketing director of Mi Store Portgual said that the company’s move to accept crypto payments aligns with the goal of innovation for the company:
“We are a technological, innovative, and disruptive brand. That’s why we always want to be one step ahead. We want to give the possibility to all true technology fans to buy their favorite gadgets with what is currently the ‘most technological money.’”
As previously reported, Portugal was steadily growing as a crypto-friendly country in the past few years with the local government charging no taxes from retail crypto trading. The local energy trading firm started accepting Bitcoin as a payment for electricity bills.
