Ukraine is one of the countries full of Bitcoin fans – and in the latest news – these fans are ready to erect a statue of Satoshi Nakamoto (the founder of Bitcoin) and put it right in the place where Lenin’s statue once stood.
The statue would be placed at the Shevchenko Boulevard in Kyiv (Ukraine’s capital) where a monument to Vladimir Lenin – the father of the Soviet Union – stood before it was brought down in the 2014 Ukrainian revolution.
The entire initiative is currently pushed forward by a group known as the Satoshi Nakamoto Republic which plans to put up a virtual monument which can be viewed with an app when mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets are pointed at an object that will be located at the intended site of the statue. The plans for development are currently undertaken by a virtual reality firm known as Raccoon World.
After the virtual monument, plans are to petition the Kyiv City State Administration before launching a fundraising campaign with the goal of the statue being approved by the Kyiv officials.
According to Andriy Moroz who is the First Ambassador of the Satoshi Nakamoto Republic:
“The monument to Lenin was a symbol of last centuries that had already passed, leaving conflicting feelings in the hearts of people. Satoshi and the decentralization of society are a new era and new opportunities,”
As Moroz explained, Bitcoin represents the future while Lenin symbolizes the past. Aside from his shared initiative to erect monuments of Nakamoto, the group is also planning to purchase an island and build the Satoshi Nakamoto City – as well as plan the first “virtual decentralized blockchain republic”.
